Should Clothing Matter? In Bartlett High School, you can ask almost anyone in the building “would you enjoy school if there was a dress code,” and almost all of them would say “NO!” The thing is, by having a dress code students think they can’t express themselves, and believe it or not, the way you dress is a big aspect in being popular. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true. Many would argue that a dress code would have no effect on the school environment, but little do they know, that by having a dress code there would be more things changed than they can possibly imagine. Although not everyone agrees, having a dress code will make life easier. To begin with, having a dress code can save Bartlett form a lot of problems. Students can be seen as a threat or a target to other students by the way they dress. Let’s just say the student decides to wear a combination of colors that he thinks looks nice, but other students (gang bangers) will see him as a rival gang and target him as an enemy. Most parents would argue and say “that’s why the officer is there, to stop these conflicts from happening.” Even though that’s true, there is only one officer in the school and Bartlett is a big school, so he might not be around all the time. But if we have a dress code, we can make life easier on the officer and on the students by approving this rule. Also, the type of clothing you wear and how you wear it can define what type of character you are. For example, when a nice sweet girl decides to expose herself a little more because it’s a hot sunny day, and she gets called a slut for it and gets picked on for the rest of the day. Or when boys decide to sag and show more than there supposed to, some people will find it disgusting and others will see it as a threat, like I explained on the paragraph on top. Even though,
