First Aid Review Questions
Q1. Construct a flow chart, outlining the procedures of DRABCD. Danger- when an emergency occurs, ensure the casualty, bystanders and first aider are not at risk of injury.
Response- check for a response from the casualty (e.g. ask “squeeze my hand”, “can you hear me?”, etc.)
Send for Help- call 000 or if busy ask a bystander to call 000.
Airways- check for obstructions of the airways and when all clear carefully turn onto back.
Breathing- check if the casualty is breathing by looking for rise and fall of chest, sounds of breathing and the feel of casualty breathing on cheek.
CPR- if the casualty is not breathing then start CPR 30 compressions, 2 breaths, continue until medics arrive or you are too tired.
Defibrillation- use an AED if available and trained to use, otherwise wait until medics arrive to use it.
Q2. Justify the importance of calling for emergency services.
It is important to call emergency services because if it is a serious injury or the casualty is unconscious than the medics will have more knowledge then you as well as being available to and being able to use various technologies which would be able to help the casualty better than the first aider could by themselves. Another reason why it is important to call emergency services is because even if the accident is not an emergency situation, it is still important to seek medical advice for a smaller injury, to prevent any further injuries and also to help with faster treatment
