To Adopt a Pet from PAWS Humane You Should:
Be 21 years of age or older
Have a form of identification (valid driver’s license or picture ID)
Understand the adoption fees, which vary and are dependent on many factors including age, size, behavior, medical condition and demand
Be able to spend the time and resources necessary to provide the training, medical treatment and proper care for your pet
Have the time to spend up to an hour with an adoption counselor to discuss the responsibility of owning a pet and making it a lifetime commitment

Surrendering Your Pet:
Surrendering your pet for re-adoption should be viewed as a last resort for you and your pet. Living in a shelter environment can be very stressful to a pet that has become accustomed to household living. As a no-kill shelter, PAWS Humane works diligently to save as many homeless animals as possible and remains at maximum capacity at all times
Animal Control – When a stray or found animal is dropped off at or picked up by Animal Control, they will keep them for 5 days. During that time, Animal Control will try to locate their owners to reunite the animal with their family, who may pay a fine depending on the circumstances. If an animal is not claimed from Animal Control, one of three things will happen. PAWS and other area rescues can pull them and adopt them out through their organization. Animal Control will contact anybody interested in the animal to come adopt them out after they have been held for 5 days. If animal is neither adopted nor rescued, they will be humanely euthanized. Of course, it is unfortunate, but this is why we do what we do. We continue to work to one day eliminate the need to euthanize healthy adoptable animals.
“No-Kill” – PAWS Humane is a no-kill shelter. What this means is that we do not have an open-door policy and we do not euthanize for space reasons. We have the luxury of keeping dogs and cats for as long as needed until we can find the right home for them. This also means that we can only bring in as many animals as we have space for. When an animal is adopted, it opens up space to bring another animal in.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers for all programs must possess a love of animals and concern for their welfare.
Animal Care:
Mobile Adoptions/Special Events – Volunteers can help out at special events, like Howlin’ Halloween, the Aflac Outdoor Games, Applause for PAWS, or our PetCo and PetSmart Mobile adoption events. Volunteers are needed to walk dogs, help talk to the public about PAWS and our animals, and load and unload animals at the site.
Foster Homes – Some of our shelter animals require placement in foster care for socialization, animals that are too young for adoption, or medical care before they are made available for adoption. Foster families provide the love and care they need until they are made available, or a permanent home can be found. Families interested in fostering must complete an application and
