Paula Hawkins was a Senator from Florida. Not only was she from Florida, she was the first female senator to represent Florida. She born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 24, 1927. Hawkins attended the public schools of Salt Lake City and Richmond, Utah, and Atlanta, Ga. She also attended Utah State University from 1944 to 1947. She wrote a few books in her life, and all were opinion books. One of her books, “The Girl on the Train,” seemed to be the most controversial book she wrote. Her life was a very exciting and accomplished. She also had many roles in other groups such as, member of Florida Public Service Commission 1972-1979, vice president of Air Florida 1979-1980, director of Rural Telephone Bank Board 1972-1978, member of President’s Commission on White House Fellowships 1975, served on Federal Energy Administration Consumer Affairs/Special Impact Advisory Committee 1974-1976 and she was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1980 for the six-year term commencing January 3, 1981. She was to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Richard B. Stone for the term ending January 3, 1981. Hawkins served from January 1, 1981, to January 3, 1987. Her death happened on December 4, 2009, most likely caused by health problems, such as the stroke she had earlier on. She now lies in Palm Cemetery, located in Winter Park, Florida.
