Paradigm Shift On this research paper I decided to write about the way Watson could impact the future. Watson is an artificially intelligent computer system capable of answering questions posed in natural language. It was developed by International Business Machines (IBM). When asked a question, Watson relies on hypothesis generation and evaluation to rapidly analyze relevant evidence and evaluate responses from different data. Through repeated use, Watson literally gets smarter by tracking feedback from its users and learning from both successes and failures. Watson could impact the way we do healthcare in many ways. Doctors can use Watson to assist in diagnosing and treating patients by having it analyze large amounts of unstructured text and develop hypotheses based on that analysis. It’s impossible for a doctor to be able to read and know every little thing about medical. Watson can provide some treatment options and for each option, provide its confidence rating of the answer being correct. (IBM Web site, 2014) IBM announced that it will make its IBM Watson technology available as a development platform in the cloud, to enable a worldwide community of software applications providers to build a new generation of apps infused with Watson’s cognitive computing intelligence. This can open up a whole new world of new helpful apps that can impact the future. (IBM Web site, 2014) Watson could have a huge impact on figuring out the genetics of brain cancer. Since this super computer can analyze so much information, it has the ability to sift through the genomes of cancer patients and help doctors pick the right drugs for treatment. Right now, combing through DNA data is done by scientists, and it is time consuming
