Very commonly a person is labeled insane due to behavior from the outcome of loneliness as well as depression. Therefore, in the case of the short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a realistic story. The short story shows how not socializing, being excluded from the outside world and manipulation can increase Postpartum Depression. This moral makes the story realistic because cases similar to this occur everyday and sadly history repeats itself all too often. In the short story, a housewife suffers from Postpartum Depression, which is a disorder in women that comes from childbirth. Postpartum Depression makes the suffered have serious effects on the individual and can cause dramatic behaviors that can have an outcome of suicide. It is very common among all women, as about 1 out of every 10 will suffer from this depression. In the United States, it is estimated that about 700,000 women will undergo postpartum depression each year. Symptoms of Postpartum depression include mood swings, anxiety, sadness, crying, decreased concentration and even trouble sleeping.
The Narrator/ Protagonist of the story suffers from an illness that her husband who is also her doctor diagnosed her with. In an attempt to recover from her depression after pregnancy her husband recommends that she stay in their summerhouse. While there she starts her journal. In the Journal she discusses how her husband believes she is
