Is Over Eating a Sin? When people think of sin, the first thing that comes to mind is not over eating or gluttony. I believe that over eating is a sin and we should not ignore it. Gluttony also could have a big impact on someone’s life. I also believe that over eating is idolatry and I will explain that later.
There are different definitions of sin in the Bible. One that comes to mind is “therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:17). The verse in James shows us that if you know that over eating is a sin and you do it anyway, it is a sin. So when the Bible tells you the right thing to do and you purposely ignore it, for example gluttony, the person is sinning. When a person is over eating, it affects their mind, their body, their spirit, their heart, their emotions, their relationships, and even their finances. There are easy ways for people to fall into the trap of overeating. For example, a person could convince their self that he or she is not addicted to overeating and “can stop at any time”. Jesus teaches, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin (John 8:34). Another way is a person might over eat when nobody is watching. When sin is in your life, it can be easy to keep the sin secretive so no one else will know about it. Once a person realizes this sin they have to confess it. James 5:16 states, “Therefore, confess Koyate 2 your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” The biblical term for “addiction” is “idolatry.” The sin of overeating is idolatry. Idolatry
of our church in Corinth by our practice of eating ‘idol’ meat. We write to you now because our community still stands divided on many issues, many claim fidelity to different factions and different leaders, maintain they have spiritual superiority and claiming to represent the true faith, such as Cephas or Apollos. (Ehrman 232) We understand your message of the lord to be one of salvation involving an understanding of God’s grace and forgiveness of sins. Jesus Christ is Lord, that in him God has…
reflecting God’s as intended, they chose to obey the voice of Satan. This is often the case with people all over the world. Every human being has an inherent inclination to do evil instead of upholding righteousness as earlier intended by God. Every time when people act dishonestly, kill, or steal, they tend to follow the very example of Adam and Eve. According to the Christian teachings, the sin that was committed by Adam and Eve drew all human into a fallen state. And this explains why men will naturally…
Milton, a devout Christian. The poem tells how Satan is cast out of hell, only to want to bring to fruition the fall of man. So Satan travels to earth to the Garden of Eden to tempt man (Adam and Eve) to eat the forbidden fruit, so that they can sin. After succeeding in his quest, Satan finds out that not only does he himself not possess free- will, but that God’s plan the whole time was for man to fall so they may have eternal life in heaven. However, Christianity and free-will do not go hand-in-hand;…
Gay Rights Amanda Jenkins It is my belief that gay marriage should be legal everywhere because homosexuality is not the only sin in the bible that the majority of people commit, homosexuals cannot control their sexual orientation, and we have accepted many other things so why not accept homosexuality? Think about this: A couple that is constantly arguing, and constantly has adultery issues, and who only want to be married to each other because they have children, are allowed to…
has several themes. With that each book has many different interpretations. I have decided to choose the book of Genesis, focusing on the theme of the “beginnings”, there are many things that began in this book such as; the universe, earth, people, sin and God’s plan. Genesis is the first book of the Bible which is also the first book of the Old Testament. Genesis literally means “origin” in Greek. All these things that were created in the beginning took seven days to complete. That is astounding…
certain fast days, and in particular you always fast before taking “Holy Communion.” Did Jesus really recommend or command fasting for his followers? In the instances recorded in the Bible, fasting was done as an expression of sorrow and repentance for sins or when under distressing conditions. (Dan. 10:2, 3; 1 Sam. 31:13; 2 Chron. 20:3, 4) Also, persons might fast when in sore need of divine guidance or at times when unusual concentration on some service to God was necessary.—Judg. 20:26; Esther 4:16…

the 7 Deadly Sins shows himself to be more cruel than Thomas Becket, who reveals goodness in the 7 Heavenly Virtues. Throughout the film, King Henry constantly shows his usage of the 7 Deadly Sins. Henry displays his desire for lust mainly by sleeping with any woman he wishes. For example, before a battle against France, Henry brings a French woman to his tent and proceeds to fill his thirst for sex. He mainly see women as necessities to fulfill his need for lust. Another deadly sin Henry exhibits…
our purpose here on Earth have been studied and examined for thousands of years. Until 1858, when Charles Darwin released his Theory of Evolution and Natural Selection, few people questioned the Church’s teachings on the creation of Man and Original Sin. Most accepted the Catholic Church’s interpretation of Genesis 3 as fact with no real tangible evidence. This all changed after Darwin’s Theory, when people began to question the Church’s teachings on the creation of man. Christian philosophers such…
