An orthopedic surgeon is a surgeon who has been trained in the diagnosis and preoperative, operative, and postoperative treatment of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. I became interested in this career when I was 7 years old because of a tv show. When Grey’s Anatomy came out in
2007, I was very interested in the person who played the orthopedic surgeon, so I did my own research on it and I fell in love. To become a surgeon you must have the following skills:
●Assessment & Intuition: These skills will allow you to perform a physical exam and be able to make a diagnosis before lab tests or x-rays.
●Leadership: You will need strong leaderships skills to become a surgeon. You’ll have to work well with nurses, general practitioners and other hospital staff.
You should be confident in your decisions regarding patients’ care and be able to lead others.
●Negotiation: Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences.

●Judgement & Decision Making: Considering the relative cost and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
●Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions.
●Active Learning: Understanding new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision making. My personality matches the skills required for this career because I am smart and easy to talk to. I am a fast learner and I also have great leadership skills. I’ve also had some real-life experiences that have had helped prepared me for this job. I actually do an internship at a hospital and I get to work with some of the surgeons.
Becoming a surgeon requires a bunch of school. You need to get your Bachelors Degree. Then you need to take your
Medical College Admission Test to even get into medical school.
