Of Mice and Men Final Essay
The story
Of Mice and Men included a wide variety of characters that were treated on their race and personality. This story was set in Soledad, California in the year 1937. George and
Lennie are the main characters trying to achieve the american dream but are stumbled with a lot of choppy battles. Lennie is the main source of conflict making George very enraged at times but
George always sticks with him and loves him like he his is his brother. Lennies intellectual disabilities motivates a large of amount of the problems. George acts like a father like figure to
Lennie making Lennie always looking up to him. John Steinbeck goes into depth about these characters making you think how they think. Crooks, Lennie, and Curley’s wife are the characters that are treated with the least amount of appreciation due to their race, gender, or intellectual disability.
Lennie is one of the main characters in the story and suffers from an intellectual impairment. You might think that characters in the story treat Lennie with more respect due to his disability but think again this story was set in 1937 where people really didn't care if you were a different race or had an intellectual problem. Lennie doesn't mean to do any harm to anyone at all but people don't realize that. Lennie ends up hurting innocent animals such as the puppy and the mice he had killed in the novel. The severity of those incidents did not match up to when he killed Curley’s wife. Lennie was marginalized from society due to his intellectual

George never came back.” Lennie is really in denial when he said that because he believes that
George will never leave him and he will always come back. Lennie starts to become threatening to Crooks and he realized that and said he was just joking. Lennies personality is very wide ranged and you can tell throughout the story by the actions he does.
Curley’s wife gets annoyed by the men on the ranch because she doesn't have a lot of their respect. She doesn't get much respect because the time period the story was set in and how she was the only women on the ranch trying to talk to all the men all the time. Her husband is very rude and controlling. An example from the text is when she is in the barn talking to George and Curley walked in and said. “ Go back to the house, you don't belong here.” Curley’s wife never really loved her husband the way she should and hated everything about the ranch she lived on. She told this to Lennie and later on in that scene Lennie ended up
