1.The word “local” has many different meanings at different levels. Local should not be restricted to only one meaning. For instance, food that is purchased locally with the United States means within the state or at a distance that will keep food fresh. This is different when it comes to United States government using local products- products from United States only- this will show that within all states of America. Local based on level of structure of power means different things.
3. Climate plays a huge role when it comes to planning what and when to plant. Based on the geographical setting things may grow better or worse. UW-Madison should first of all make sure that whatever product they are planning to add to their menu is being grown in their locality. Terrain and soils are more important when considering what foods to grow. Some soils may favor growth of other foods which may yield a good and nutritious product while others will be weak nutritionally.
6. All the farm produce has to go through inspection and if it qualifies and meets the necessary standards, the farmer is given approval to sell his/her farm products. When approved by different agencies dealing with specific product, they put online who has an approval to sell his/her products. For a buyer to get standardized products, he/she needs to go to the agency website and check whether the farm products are approved or not.
