Honors Biology Chapter 7 review 1. List 3 parts of the cell theory
1. All living organisms are composed of one or more cells
2. Cells are the basic unit of life
3. Cells are born from previously existing cells and passing their DNA to the new cells 2. Describe the difference between prokaryotic cells, eukaryotic cells, and viruses. Prokaryotic= smaller, simpler, no nucleus Eukaryotic = no complex, has a nucleus, larger Viruses= has DNA , isn’t considered a cell 3. The plasma membrane is a boundary , meaning that it only lets certain things in and out 4. Describe the components of phospholipids, carbohydrates, proteins and cholesterol of the plasma Membrane and the purpose of each part. Phospholipids= arrange themselves in a way that allows the plasma membrane to exist in a watery Environment. Carbohydrates= identify ? * Proteins= transport substances to the other side of the plasma membrane Cholesterol= maintains fatty acids from sticking in the plasma membrane 5. Explain what ribosomes, the nucleus, the ER, the Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, mitochondria, Chloroplasts, vacuoles, cilia, flagella and the cell wall are used for. Ribosomes= make protiens and lipids ER= store proteins and lipids Nucleus= contain DNA is the head of the cell Golgi apparatus= packs proteins Lysosomes= clean up cells
