Nonconformity It seems quite often that mundaness and misfortune are given to those who are quick to adapt to the social standards of their society. Blindly accepting the beliefs and ways of life of their society or culture, they represent the cowardous followers that appear in every generation in history. Beyond these invertebrates are nonconformists. Sometimes considered outcasts, they tend to question everything that is put before them, not so trusting of its legitimacy or value. Aristotle once said, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." Is it not okay to be completely open-minded about any and every concept that is presented to you? Not only this, but is it not okay to sometimes refuse to believe these concepts, due only to your own influence? Actively investigate what you have been told, but do so in a somewhat cautious manner, relying solely on yourself. Nonconformity implicates a courageous heart and an open mind.
How seldom does it occur that the faint-hearted speak against the societal norm of their time. Galileo certainly did not concoct so much controversy over universal perspectives without a great deal of courage and self-worth. Contradicting what the general population believed, he willingly advocated his argument for a heliocentric universe rather than the more familiarized geocentric universe.
