I could never fully grasp what happened to Elie Wiesel even if I read his book a hundred times the only way to fully understand I would have had to have been there and lived it. The definition of night is “the time from dusk to dawn when no sunlight is visible”. The title of this autobiography is night because everything horrible tended to happen at night. Elie was both a hero and a survivor in life and his novel. Elie was born into a middle-class Jewish family in Sighet, Hungry. He has a sister and mother and a father all of which he lost. He survived the holocaust but sadly his father, mother, and sister were not so fortunate. This book is sometimes hard to read when you see the many possibilities for escape that he was faced with when you know what he is going thru to be free of his oppressors. Elie lost his faith during the holocaust because of the things he was exposed too in the prison camps. He has survived where many would have gave up and died although there were a few times in his struggles were he almost lost the battle of life and death that he competed in every day. He ended up winning the Nobel peace prize and also being a terrorist. Elie was a survivor in his life he looked death in its eyes and keep pushing on for the chance of life after the holocaust. The definition of survival is “the act or fact of living or continuing longer than another person or thing”. He survived countless selections at the various camps he went too; truthfully just life at the camps was so many ways to die. It blew my mind to know what he made it thru and how young he was I can understand how that can mess with your head. It should let everyone who hears his story that there are times in life where you either lay there and die or get up and fight his came soon in life and lasted longer than most. The one moment in the story that truly blew my mind was when they ran twenty miles. I couldn’t imagine that although I know when your body is faced with death you move past pain, fear, or exhaustion and just react and do what you must.
