Abstract

The modern media environment is more polarized then ever before with partisan news audiences self-selecting into news channels that cater to their political preferences (Devaney, 2013). Although newspaper audience has declined over the past several decades due to the rise of television and the Internet as dominant news formats, the news article is still prominent in today's society. Whether read in print or online, the news article hasn't changed its format of using text and photographs to create a story for hundreds of year. With that being said, we would hope that the people bringing us the news would have no bias when doing so, this is simply not possible. Even if they don't realize it, everyone has a bias about something. The best we can expect is to realize the bias exists and determine for ourselves whether we'll accept or reject the story being told to us. My results confirm that when identical news content was attributed to the MSNBC, FOX, or CNN outlet label perceptions of bias were found and immensely varied among each outlet variant. Indicating that individuals perceive bias in the content even when it is not there. In this paper I will address this issue.

The news media plays an important in today’s society. It sets the stage for political news, manages their agenda, sources, and controls the information. Yet television remains the dominant source of news of the public getting most of their national and international information from. For instance, while recently watching the reports about the Ferguson story, the television network coverage I watched talks about the same story but had a different presentation, and sadly to said. I found some that was bias to the story. And the sad thing about it new remains the dominant source of news that the public get most of their information from.

CNN
CNN is a news network that is among the world's leaders in online news and information delivery. It delivers the latest breaking news and for in-depth coverage on the latest top stories, weather, business, entertainment, politics, and more. However, during the Ferguson issue, CNN point of view of the segments was that an 18-year-old boy named Michael Brown who was shot and killed two days before he start school, but before that happened, Michael Brown parents was panning his funeral. CNN is objective on some information and some subjective information reported. CNN demonstrate their point of view by using Michael Brown parents for their information source. There was nothing in CNN news coverage that should not have been included. The various social groups such as the African American within the news segments was represented more that any other social groups. These news segments has been taken at face value and not sensationalized for entertainment. People of this society are actually hurt about this issue. This news segment dose not affects my personal values because my personal values determine my priorities, and, deep down, they're probably the measures how my life turns out.

Fox News
The point of view of Fox news segment was that Michael Brown was a suspect in a robbery and it was the cause of his death. Fox news was with out doubt, subjective. They reported their own writing is based on opinions, interpretations of the Ferguson story. The statement that Michael Brown was a suspect to a robbery should not have been included. The various social groups such as the African American within the news segments was represented more that any other social groups. This news segment is sensationalized for
