My Life and Swimming

The first time he ever touched the water was at the age of 5. His name was Joseph. He was always

afraid of the water even though he loved smell of sourish chemical smell of chlorine. He never wanted to

go to the deep end or on the diving board. He wouldn’t even step in water above 4 ft. So after about a

year or so he finally became a little more confident. He started going into deeper water first, which was

a star. Joseph was getting even more confident to where finally he joined a local swim team. He started

to learn how to swim all the strokes and then pursued competitive swimming. As he started swimming

with his first he had to learn crucial fundamentals such as the dive. He kept trying and executing every-

day but he just didn’t feel comfortable entering head first into the water. The team had a meet one day

against their top rivalry team. Joseph’s team’s tradition was after every meet if they win, everyone gets

to jump in the deep end. So after countless and repetitive sounds of the buzzers and cheering from

people on the pool deck, the final score shows up. We all waited relentlessly and anxiously, and after a

a minute the announcer proclaimed their teams victory. Joseph jumped up with joy, excitement, and

exhilaration. He was so pleased he went to the deep end and dove head first with no regards for

anything. He couldn’t believe what he had just done after that, so he kept doing it repetitively
