“My Brother’s Keeper”
My Brother’s Keeper is a program created by President Obama for colored male youth in September 2014. The program is opened to be used in every community across the country. This program was created to increase the success rate amongst black males. It will allow the stigma that is put on black males saying that they are less likely obtain success. It also will generate less violence within communities seeing less youth will be active in the streets and more into their books. It allows black males to see that there are plenty of opportunities in the world for them to pursue. There also are six goals of challenge within the program such as: “Ensuring all children enter school cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally ready,” “Ensuring all children read at grade level by third grade,” “Ensuring all youth graduate from high school,” “Ensuring all youth complete post-secondary education or training,” “Ensuring all youth out of school are employed,” “Ensuring all youth remain safe from violent crime” (http://www.whitehouse.gov/my-brothers-keeperhttp://www.whitehouse.gov/my-brothers-keeper). In order for this program to generate success all of the members within communities must participate. I believe that the My Brother’s Keeper will create an immense amount of change not only in the country but within my own community. I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD which can be one of the toughest places to live. The majority of black males in my community can be found standing on the corners instead of being in schools. The My Brother’s Keeper program will allow these young males to see that school is an essential asset for them. I also see that most of these very same males only end up either in jail or selling drugs. The My Brother’s Keeper program will allow black males to see that although they may be growing up in bad neighborhood good jobs are still available to them. They also will be urged to go to college upon graduating from high school. This program also can create less violence within my neighborhood. This

If there’s a senior citizen somewhere who can’t pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent that makes my life poorer, even if it’s not my grandmother. If there’s an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process that threatens my civil liberties. It’s that fundamental belief — I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sisters’ keeper — that makes this country work. It’s what allows…
nowhere to turn? Do you feel that although your time of service ended years ago that that little hidden injury has finally surfaced and you have nowhere to turn? My family has served this country all the way back to the Civil War and I am sure in many other battles for their country. I have seen my grandfather, father, and brother go through changes that I wish there was a place that could help them, and some of these changes are what we call today PTSD. I belong to the American Legion and hear…
points out: Members of New England communities thought nothing of spying on and interfering with their neighbors’ most intimate affairs, in order, as one Massachusetts man put it in 1760, “not to Suffer Sin in My Fellow Creature or Neighbor.” People took the injunction to be their brother’s keeper very seriously and turned one another in for adultery, wife-beating, or any other violation of community norms.1 It is still true that in…
