The Great Depression
The Depression hit mainly in the south, especially Georgia. Georgia's cotton prices went down and farmer’s prospect of making a living was ruined because of the "boll weevil". *The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression in the decade preceding WW2 2. What group of people did the Great Depression affect the most? How? Why? Conditions were harder on the farmers because their main thing to lean on was their crops to make a living off of but after a drought and the "boll weevil”. These things ruined all of their ways of making a living and made them go through hard times. What did many African Americans say about how the Great Depression affected their culture as a whole? It was harder in the black's because since most of them were too poor they had to go back to working on farms for example "sharecropping". Twelve percent of blacks lost their jobs and in result they lost their farms. Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze, strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh, then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck, for the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, for the sun to rot, for the trees to drop, here is a strange and bitter crop.
