When I was in highschool, I was playing soccer for the college soccer team. In my last year of highschool, the college I was in was going to host a national soccer tournament and as the host team we had the pressure of winning the tournament. Also, the history did not support our cause because the soccer team had never won any trophy.
We started trainning 6 months before twice a day to be physically prepared. Our physical trainer was very strict and everyone kind of hate it but at the end we understood why he was like that. In those 6 months, the team started to see changes in our resistance, strenght, ball control, shooting and passing. We felt that we were the best players and have the trophy behind the glass.
Our coaches started to motivate ourselves mentally. They started to make us more like a family so that we were able to support our teammates in any situation. They also focused in be together the most of time. They planned trips to malls, restaurants, paintballs and sometimes to the beach.
Our tournament schedule was pretty hard, we had games against stronger teams. The first game was tight, we were playing better and five minutes before the end a teammate scored to win it. For the second game, we were really motivated after the result of the first game. In the second game, we scored in the first ten minutes. The opponent took control of the game, having the ball, pressing up front and creating goal opportunities. Our defence did great resulting in our second win.
