Morality for an Atheist Is it possible for an atheist to have good morals? This is a tough question for anyone to answer. Basically individuality is where this question ends, or not. It is also believed that having a capacity for love brings about all divine decisions. As an infant most humans have no concept of right and wrong. Most children are raised with some sort of religion, and with what their parents consider to be morally sound. Once we hit our teenage years, is where we start to develop our internal scales of right and wrong. It is also where we start to gain an understanding of, life and death. Most people follow the moral rules of their society, from the fear of reprisal from the god of their understanding. Throughout history mankind has always had the concept of an afterlife, it was just unfathomable to, not consider there to be something after death. With a belief that there is a god, that automatically brings on the idea of an afterlife. There has always been the feeling inside of us, that there is something else, than just this life. If there is no god then who is left to judge our actions? In some areas of the world, this idea is punishable by death. Some feel that this is out right disrespect of their god and their heritage. In a way they are right. Truth has always been hard to accept for some people, especially if it means they are losing something. Everyone should be free to believe however they choose without a repercussion for their decision. Why must there be a battle between personal freedom and blasphemy. As a modern man or woman, the responsibility of judging our own actions is truly on our own shoulders. If there is no one to hold us accountable, then are we free to do whatever we want? In a sense, yes we

Struggle for Pakistan, 2010). In modern day America, many Americans are not comfortable in the idea of someone being atheists, just look at our elected officials; so far, there has only been one only atheist’s congressman ever elected, Pete Stark. Although a recent study has shown an increase from one to 5% (1-5% increase) increase in Americans who identify themselves as Atheist, they are not being represented in government due to the fear instilled within those who are religious. This fear also…
proverbial wall of separation inherently, though perhaps not irrevocably, weak. America’s founding fathers may never have intended for church and state to be entirely independent of one another, as they undoubtedly, and indeed unfortunately, equated morality with religiosity. In building only a one-way wall, or a means of protecting religion from government without protecting government, and by extension the American people, from religion, politicians and voters alike have precluded the nation from becoming…
The Grand Inquisitor JACKIE BARRIERE stc The Grand Inquisitor The Grand Inquisitor is a chapter in Dostoyevsky’s classic novel “The Brothers Karamazov.” The Greater novel itself is a philosophical debate on God, free will, human nature and morality written by Dostoevsky over 2 years and published in 1880. What is the relationship between religion and morality? It is in my opinion that religion is dependant on morality and not the other way around. Through this, it can be stated that morality reinforces the development and evolution of religion. In this essay, I shall show that this is the case drawing from theories proposed by Plato, Kant and Berg. According to Jonathan Berg, “…a way to construe ethics as depending on religion would be on the basis of a ‘Divine Command Theory’ of ethics, identifying…
of the most pessimistic optimistic philosophers of all time. By that, I mean he believes morals to be the most simplistic thing in values, in human nature. Morals are the want to continue the advancement of the human race. Some have called him an atheist, but I think he would just call himself a man. It is funny to even really discuss what Nietzsche ethic is because if we would they are outdated; the morals of Nietzsche are lost to the sands of time. When talking about what is good and what is evil…
Religion, Science and the Universe Introduction The debate on the existence of God has been on the minds and across the tables of many intellects, philosophers, religious leaders, even scientists. Different theories come up proving the existence or the nonexistence of a supreme being who controls all systems and is the giver and sustainer of life. Theories like these suggest that God exists and different religions have established and proved the existence of God. On the other hand, scientists…
knew it would be an important part of our country. Benjamin Franklin even wrote a book about his thoughts on religious freedom which is called “Articles of Belief and Acts of Religion”. Thomas Jefferson was just like Ben Franklin. He was more an atheist than deist though, but he still believed that religious freedoms were also important. John Adams was all for the religious freedom amendment to happen. He was a strong religious man who went to mass every week and participated in all kinds of religious…
