The Monkeys Paw

Sometimes writers use their imagination to create characters and use them to teach us lessons about life. The monkeys paw is a supernatural short story by the author W.W Jacobs, in the story three wishes are granted to the owner of the monkeys paw, but the wishes come with an enormous price. The writer is teaching us that we have to be careful with what we wish because if the dreams come true you have to pay the price of what you wish.

The story involves Mr. and Mrs white and their son Herbert, sergeant-major Morris, a friend of the whites who introduces them to the monkeys paw, telling of its mysterious powers to grant three wishes and of its journey from an old fakir, sergeant-major Morris had a bad experience upon using the paw, the sergeant produces the little paw from his pocket, remarking that it had a spell cast on it by an Indian holy man, who wanted to illustrate those who interfere with it.

One example of conflict that W.W Jacobs uses is that should Mr. white use the paw and if he does use it, for what should he wish?, through this conflict the reader learns that all the decisions we make, it comes with consequences. Mr white faces the decision to buy the paw, so he must decide what he wants, in the story it states that the sergeant-major must be rid of the paw, but after Mr. white brought the paw Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds . The consequence is that Herbert his son is killed in an accident at work and the family receives the 200 pounds in compensation.

Another conflict that W.W Jacobs uses is that, after discovering the death of his son, he is given 200 pounds, the son had been extremely mangled in the accident that killed him. Through this conflict the reader learns that we have to be careful with what we
