EN 1103 Rhetorical Analysis Assignment
Write a well-developed essay in which you analyze the use of rhetorical appeals presented in the text you chose to analyze—either “The Declaration of Independence” or “Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions,” both available in Forming a Critical Perspective. Your analysis essay should analyze the essay’s effectiveness as it relates to the writer’s use of the rhetorical strategies of ethos, pathos, and logos. Your thesis should argue the writer of the article presented an effective or an ineffective argument using rhetorical appeals and should detail your reasoning. You should use specific examples and brief quotations from the article to support your assertions. Use the “Quoting” handout on MyCourses and the Little, Brown Handbook to ensure you quote and cite your quotes correctly. Use the “Questioning Rhetorical Strategies” handout posted on MyCourses to help you identify rhetorical strategies in the article. Do not engage the argument in any way. Focus only on providing an analysis of how the argument uses ethos, logos, and pathos. I, as a reader, should not be able to tell whether you agree or disagree with the argument presented in the article.

Requirements:

• Fully developed discussion of ethos, logos, and pathos as used in the text

• MLA format, including in-text citations and Works Cited page

• grade sheet from GFC included in manila envelope with draft

• grading key from MyCourses
