Minimum Wage The Speaker of the House, John Boehner, believes that America should not raise the minimum wage in America and he is right. raising the minimum wage will only hurt the people that it should help. Small businesses and even large companies will have a hard time coming up with the extra money to pay their employees. This will affect the consumers because prices will inflate so that businesses can continue to make a profit. The money has to come from somewhere and the businesses can't afford to lose money. Raising the minimum wage will also affect those with and without jobs, because companies might have to lay off workers to be able to afford paying higher wages. Companies may not be able to hire new employees, costing millions of jobs in America. If the minimum wage is raised to $10.10 hour then that will only hurt those already struggling. "When you raise the price of employment you will get less of it" says Boehner. This means that if companies now have to pay their employees more money, they will start to lay off workers to keep cost down, or not hire any new employees. If this happens that means those who are already without a job and those struggling to make enough money, will have an even tougher time. Businesses will need to compensate for the additional cost by charging higher prices for their goods and services, which is not ideal for consumers.
