Gangs are supported by a group of individuals or close friends with an organization or leadership. Some criminal gang members are usually jumped in. When joining a gang, you must prove your loyalty and stay committed to the gang that you are with. In a gang, the member must know and remember the knowledge and information about the gang. A member of a gang may be called a gangster. Some gangs are not always violent. You have different types of gangs. Some gangs are dealing with school activities. A wide variety of gangs have existed for centuries, such as the Damned Crew, Chinese Triads, Bowery Boys, Russian Mafia crime families, and the Irish mob. The five primary steps of gang involvements are; at risk association, members, hardcore members and leaders. At risk is a group of young kids that are not considered as gang members by the law enforcement. They know gang members may associate with them on a casual or limited time. The young kids are mostly watching everything that the older gang members are doing. They may like and admire what the gang members in the neighborhood and the gang lifestyle, but will not participate in any gang activities. This group is generally between the age 7 and 9 years old. The association group allows kids to associate with gang members on a regular basis and will gang life normal and acceptable. The kids find certain things in common with the older gang members and are seriously thinking about joining the gang. Some associates consider themselves members, even if they have not yet been formally called a “Wanna Be” or a “Baby Gangster.” They may act, walk, talk, and dress like gang members. They also tend to socialize with them. These associates are sometimes used by older gang members to do specific task; such as serving as look outs, runners, or even writing graffiti on buildings and trains. This person usually age between the ages of 9 and 13 years old. They also can range from the ages of 7 to 18 in some cases. The difference is in their commitment. The gang member group associates almost exclusively with other gang members, to the exclusion of family and close friends. These people have shifted their gang. This person mostly participates in gang crimes and most of the gang's activities. These people are usually between the ages of 14 and 20 years old, but can range from 11 to 40 years old. The gang member has a much more attachment to the gang mentality, or code when compared to an associate. A “Hard core gang member,” is a gang member that has become totally committed to the gang and gang lifestyle. A hard core gang member is referred to as an “OG” or as better known as an original gangster. They usually reject and value system other than
