Accreditation: a voluntary peer- review process through which an agency grants recognition to an institution for a program of study that meets specified criteria
Sponsoring Organization: a professional organization that appoints members to a joint review committee board.
Joint Review Committee: (JRC): group of persons appointed by sponsoring organizations to oversee the accreditation process.
Essential and Guideline: a document specifying the minimum quality standards for the accreditation of an education al program as approved by the appropriate joint review committee.
Standards: a document specifying the minimum requirements for accreditation of an educational program by a joint review committee.
Joint Review Committee on Education in Nuclear Medicine Technology: JRCNMT: accredits approximately 100 nuclear medicine technology programs.
Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology: JRCERT: accredits more programs than any other allied health profession.
Certification- a voluntary process through which an agency grants recognition to an individual on demonstration, usually by examination, of specialized professional skills
Registry: a list of individuals holding certification in a particular profession.
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers: ARDMS: offers voluntary certification through examination to eligible sonographers and vascular technologists.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: ARRT: encourages the study and elevating the standards of radiologic technology, examining and certifying eligible candidates and periodically publishing a listing of registrants.
Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board: NMTBC: examining and certifying eligible candidates and periodically publishing a listing of registrants. Their mission is accomplished through voluntary certification by examination.
Licensure: the process by which a government agency (usually a state) grants permission to individuals to practice their profession.
American Healthcare Radiology Administrators: AHRA: organized to promote management practice in the administration of imaging services.
American Society of Echocardiography: ASE: is an organization of physician, scientists, laboratory managers, cardiovascular sonographers and nurses.
American Society of Radiologic Technologists: ASRT: advance the professions of radiologic technology and imaging specialties, to maintain high standards of education, to enhance the quality of patient care, and to further the welfare and socioeconomics of radiologic technologists.
Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences: AEIRS: its main purpose is to encourage the exchange of teaching concepts, to help establish minimum standards for teaching radiologic technologies, and to advance radiologic education.
Association of Vascular and Interventional Radiographers­: AVIR: organized to represent radiographers and allied health care professionals specializing in cardiovascular and interventional radiology.
International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine/Section for Magnetic Resonance Technologists: ISMRM: further the development and application of magnetic resonance technique
International Society of Radiographers and Radiologic Technologists: ISRRT: is an international nongovernmental organization of national societies of radiologic technologists.
Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers: SDMS: promotes advance, and educate its members.
