What were the major developments in the evolution of mass media during the 20th century?
Some major developments in the evolution of mass media during the 20th century were print, electrical and digital. In the 20th century, there were radios, telephone, television, newspaper and internet. The first transatlantic cable was laid in 1858. Therefore, the united states were able to communicate from the united states to Europe. London times said that, that was one of the greatest things to happen. Back then, they did not have technology as we did. Therefore, I could only imagine how frustrating things were before all of the technology. Waiting for a message had to be one of the hardest things from a telegraph. Guglielmo Marconi was recognized for the development of the radio. When radios were first developed, radios were used only for military purposes only. Later everyone began to listen to the radio for his or her own entertainment. Print was another major thing back then with newspaper. Before Johannes Gutenberg invented the movable printing everything was hand written and nothing was ever the exact same. In 1810, Friedrich Koenig hooked the steam engine up to the printing press meaning that he was able to 3,000 pages an hour instead of the regular 480 an hour. When he invented the new printing machine, he was able to help newspapers become more popular. Even to this day, newspapers are still available but they are not as popular as they were back then. Everyone has technology and the fastest way to look up on something is the internet. You can watch the news but it is such a slow process and you have to wait a certain time just to hear about a story.
