Daniel Boone was an American pioneer, explorer, and frontiersman whose frontier exploits made him one of the first folk heroes of the United States. Boone is most famous for his exploration and settlement of what is now Kentucky. Boone first reached Kentucky in the fall of 1767 while on a long hunt with his brother. There he was captured by Shawnees who told them to leave and never return however, Boone continued exploring and hunting in Kentucky. There he founded the village of Boonesborough. More than 200,000 European people migrated to Kentucky by following the route marked by Boone. As a young man, Boone served with the British military during the French and Indian War. Boone was also militia officer during the Revolutionary War.He participated in the war when Kentucky was fought primarily between the American settlers and the British-aided Native Americans. Daniel Boone also fought in the Battle of Blue Licks which was one of the last battles on the Revolutionary War. Following the war, Boone worked as a surveyor and merchant. He was a legend in his own lifetime, especially after an account of his adventures was published in 1784, making him famous in America and Europe. Helen Hayes was a talented actress with a very successful career. Her career lasted for over seventy years and eventually she earned the nickname “First Lady of American theatre”. Helen was one of the twelve people who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony award. Hayes began a stage career at an early age. She did her first performance at 5 years of age when she sang at Washington's Belasco Theatre. By the age of ten, she had made a short film called Jean and the Calico Doll, but moved to Hollywood only when her husband, playwright Charles MacArthur, signed a Hollywood deal. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart Convent in Washington and graduated in 1917. Hayes starred in many films such as “A Farewell to Arms”, “Arrowsmith” and “The Sin of Madelon Claudet” for which she had won the Academy Award for Best Actress. . Helen Hayes also got awarded with the National Medal of Arts because of her exceptional talent. Helen Hayes was recognized for her achievements and many theaters had been renamed in her honor such as the Fulton Theatre and the New York City's Broadway theater. During his term Reagan supported anti-communist movements around the world and he also signed a INF Treaty with Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to decrease the nuclear arsenals of both countries’ during the arms race. Reagan left office in 1989; he died ten years later at the age of 93.
