Created by Interbank Card Association, Master Card was originated in 1966. When MasterCard first started as a company it was originally known as Master Charge: The Interbank Card. California Bank, Wells Fargo, Crocker National Bank, and Bank of California formed ICA (known as Interbank Card Association) these banks helped begin Master Charge. MasterCard is a strong company because their great employees benefits, offer a variety of credit cards for their customers and they are rated third in the consumer finance.
Two years later Master Charge expanded the company to Mexico, Japan and Europe this was their start of becoming the leading company in the credit card industry. In 1979 Master Charge underwent a name changed and was called MasterCard. To attract more people worldwide, MasterCard is now known as MasterCard Worldwide. In the beginning consumers and businesses didn’t need access to the internet because that wasn’t what the consumer needed or wanted at the time. Today everyone is always on the go and with products like the Tablet, iPad, Cell Phones and different electronics that enable consumers to get onto the internet it has become a need and want for consumers to be able to check their information when they are not at home.
Growing technology increases the use of Internet in everyday use. Companies have begun to integrate internet for their consumers’ use. Many banks are making it easier to find out checking and savings account balances by using what they call Mobile Banking. MasterCard has followed suit by using mobile devices for their new payment program. From the days of credit cards to the contactless and wireless payment options of today, MasterCard Worldwide has led the industry in driving this evolution.
The last four decades has seen a lot in how the world operates and how people and businesses around the world pay for goods and services they need. Rising electronic payments helped economic growth transcend borders, bringing benefits to every corner of the world.
