Milton and Alighieri
In John Milton's Paradise Lost, Satan is described as a creature that wants revenge against God. Someone that is full of hatred and pride. For Dante Aligheri's “The Inferno” Satan is described as a horrendous creature that is doomed for eternity and is in a place where there is only darkness with no way out. This shows that both stories show Satan is a creature that is related to both darkness and hell, and agrees to the fact that no human wants to be sent to hell and be with Satan.
In Paradise Lost after his foul revolt and was now out of heaven Satan is now seeking revenge from God, he shows that inferno is where he prefers to be. “He trusted to have equaled the most high, if he opposed; and with ambitious aim against the throne and monarchy of God raised impious war in Heaven and battle proud, with vain attempt.” Satan is confident of having equal power like god and with this he is now making revenge against him and he is looking to start a war. “Hail horrors! I did not die, and yet I lost life's breath; imagine for yourself what I became, deprived at one of both my life and death.” He explains that it is Satan’s place is where you are in fear greatly and that you feel you are completely out of life and cannot breathe something better then what he is now seeing. “If he was beautiful as now he
