Marijuana
Marijuana is the most widely used illegal substance in Australia, specifically by young people. Marijuana is a product of the cannabis sativa and is described as a brown, green or grey combination of dried up, shredded leaves, flowers, stems and seeds. Marijuana is usually smoked as a cigarette called a joint and has appeared in cigar wrappers called blunts, when it is often mixed with a different drug. As stated by a survey lead by Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 35% of the Australian population, have used this drug at least one time. The health concerns allied to using Marijuana is likely to be outdone by the arguments about whether it should be legal or not.

There are lots of side-affects caused by smoking marijuana. The active substance in marijuana is THC (short for delta-9-tetrahyfrocannabinol). THC is quickly absorbed after using marijuana, within minutes, THC and other substances in marijuana cause short-term health effects. The effects consist of hallucinations, vomiting, feeling happy & relaxed, dry mouth and anxiety. Similar to most drugs, the reaction that a person has to marijuana can differ depending on the quantity of the dosage. The long-term effects of marijuana use can have many effects on a person. You may get a high possibility of cancer, develop breathing problems, a bigger risk of getting lung infections and that THC can harm the tissues and cells in your body that help guards you against diseases.

Differing to common belief, marijuana is addictive. Estimations from study suggest that about 9% of consumers become addicted to marijuana; this number rises between those who start young and between people who use marijuana daily.
