When I asked my mother why history is so important she shared a quote by Michael Crichton with me. “If you don't know history, then you don't know anything. You are a leaf that doesn't know it is part of a tree. ” this quote was enough for me to completely understand what she meant. For years I have been fascinated by history because it has shaped the world we live in today. It gives us a hint of what can possibly happen in certain situations. United States history is intriguing to me because in the 200 years the U.S. has been around it has undergone many changes and faced many challenges. Since history has so much to offer I am sure I will not be disappointed. Being that I enjoy history so much I would like to be able to teach it.
My mother and I have constant conversations about history and she has taught me a great deal of it. Time management skills and commitment are two basic things you need to become a teacher and I believe I have those skills. Throughout my life I have played soccer and have been committed to the sport and have spent hours each week on it, but yet does not affect my academics. My community service hours have been spent on tutoring kids in the subject of history and I enjoyed it.
