Macbeth Development – Essay
During the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth the main role in the play, develops and shows all sides of his character. In the beginning of the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is a brave and caring character, but as the play progresses he becomes murderous and weak. At the end of the play he converts to evil, mean and also participates in many unconscionable acts. Although Macbeth transformed as a character and also in the way he feels he was always an ambitious role in the play. In the play the main character is heavily influenced and persuaded by external forces, particularly the supernatural and the immense ambition of Lady Macbeth.

In the beginning Macbeth is seen as a courageous soldier who is loyal to the King. He is seen as brave, caring and also superstitious character that cared about protecting the king, himself and his family. His main ambition or goal was to become the king of Scotland and waited patiently for his moment of glory if it was to come. "The service and the loyalty I owe, in doing it, pays itself. Your highness' part", this shows that he was very loyal to his king but how he also gave everything to be the best he could be. Macbeth does not have any hatred of his king but only his loyalty and respect. At the start of the play he is a caring and loyal individual who would do everything in his power to protect his king.

The act of Macbeth assassination of King Duncan was very traitorous and weak, after falling to Lady Macbeths manipulating ways and going against what he has always believed in, being loyal and protecting the King. “For mine own good all causes shall give way. ... I am in blood, stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o'er”, just after Macbeth has killed King Duncan he is deceitful and indecisive. Even though he is becoming weak and cowardly, he has always been ambitious and never forgotten about what he could have. After Lady Macbeth’s manipulation and the witches’ prophecies he became indecisive in his actions and weak in his thoughts whilst always being ambitious.

At the end of the play Macbeths character develops into an even more evil and mean role. Whilst he is still ambitious he focused his ambitions onto more dark subjects like murder. The evil consumed Macbeth overtime, from all the murders he commits, and from trying to interfere with the witches’
