Macbeth Visual Representation Rationale
In my visual representation I have used the image of a lady holding a mask with blood on her hands to represent the theme of illusion versus Reality. Many characters in Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, are two-faced. Two examples of these people are Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. These characters all put on false faces to impress people or hide things from people. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth try to make everyone believe that they are innocent and have done no harm. In reality Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are sinful. They are responsible for the murders of Macduff’s family, Banquo and King Duncan. I have chosen to use dark colours on the lady in the picture to represent darkness. William Shakespeare employs the imagery of darkness in Act 4 of his play Macbeth to describe the agents of disorder. The witches, Macbeth and Scotland are all described as dark because they represent the agents of chaos. Also in Macbeth darkness symbolizes murder, betrayal and sneakiness. Lady Macbeth or Macbeth is telling the night to come and cover their bloody tracks so they can murder King Duncan. It is better to be done at night where everyone is asleep and no one knows who's wandering about. On the mask the lady is holding i have used light colours. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth both put on a false persona when around others. The mask looks so innocent and disarmed. The eye colour on the mask is different than the colour on the lady because it shows untaintedness. That’s what Macbeth and lady Macbeth try to portray throughout the story.
