Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s Relationship Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s relationship evidently evolves drastically throughout the play,
Macbeth, in numerous and obvious ways. Firstly, At the beginning of Macbeth, it is shown how Macbeth see’s his lady as an equal partner. This is proven by how Macbeth refers to her as “My dearest partner of greatness…”(Macbeth I.v 10) in the letter that Macbeth sent to Lady Macbeth. This part of the play specifically is showing how the characters relationship is functioning before conflicts arise.
This also shows how gentle and respecting he is towards Lady Macbeth by the loving tone in his letter. Next, it is shown in the early stages of their relationship how Macbeth cherishes Lady
Macbeth’s opinion. This is proven by how Macbeth continuously confides in his lady, especially about his feelings towards the witches prophecies, saying, “When I burned in desire to question them further, they made themselves air, into which they vanished.”(Macbeth I.v 4­4) This specifically proves how much he trusts Lady Macbeth with his feelings and how much value and equality he feels towards her. It is also proven at the beginning of
Macbeth how much Macbeth trusts her by how when Lady Macbeth purposes her plan for Duncan’s death to Macbeth, their conversation ends with the lady stating “Leave all the rest to me.” (Macbeth I.v 81) This is showing how Lady Macbeth is the more controlling one in their relationship, yet Macbeth doesn't seem to mind (for now) because he needs his wife. Further on in

, it is evident how the couples relationship has started to take a dramatic turn and Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have almost seem to have switched roles, relationship wise. This is shown by after Macbeth killed Duncan, Macbeth seems more cold

hearted. When Lady Macbeth says to her servant, “Say to the King, I would like to attend his leisure for a few words.” (Macbeth III.ii 3) Before this point, Lady Macbeth did not have to ask permission to do something as simple as speak to her husband. This is showing how much the tables have turned and how their relationship is starting to take a downfall. Next, Macbeth seems more independent with the way he doesn't feel the need to confide in his Lady anymore.
