Well she was precious like a flower
She grew wild, wild, but innocent
A perfect prayer in a desperate hour
She was everything beautiful and different
Stupid boy, you can't fence that in
Stupid boy, it's like holding back the wind
Stupid Boy- Keith Urban

This quotation comes from a song that I have heard many times, one being from the television show, The Voice, it was performed by season 4 winner, Cassadee Pope. I enjoy Cassadee Pope’s version for how she delivers the emotion in the lyrics. However, I originally heard it from it’s source, Keith Urban. It wasn’t a song I immediately was drawn to but after listening to it a few times I became obsessed. This quotation is the first 6 lines of the song and show the theme of the song very well, a theme that has always seemed to draw me in.
The beginning lines paint a vivid picture of the subject. She is being compared to a flower, something pure and untouched. Nature is something humans strive to control but cannot. It is a force we can only admire and work with. The first lines remind me of childhood, when everything was peaceful and pure. A Utopian setting, as most childhoods are. You grow up wild and naive before being unleashed upon the world. The repetition of the word wild shows the significance of that quality to both the subject and narrator. I think that the narrator is trying to portray a wholesome girl with a wild side, which could be either beneficial or hindering later. Yet with the comparison to a flower it also shows her vulnerability because a flower can easily be crushed.
As the song progresses into the next couple lines it shows another side where the subject is further shown to be sheltered and innocent. The use of words in the third line is very specific, it pertains to how he views her originally. How he sees her as a miracle in some ways, she has come along just when he needed it and in the perfect way.
The way the fourth line is pronounced can change the meaning. With Cassadee Pope’s version, she pauses before the word different, this shows that she isn’t what he thought she was originally. That she seemed perfect to begin with but it wouldn’t last. With Keith Urban’s version, he keeps the
