“Infatuation might lead you to do things you will regret, but love never steers you in the wrong direction.” This is a quote my mom would always tell me growing up. Have you ever been in what you thought was true love but something along the way went wrong and nothing came out of it except maybe a couple, maybe few months of mourning? Well almost everyone has and that’s because it was never true love in the first place. Many people today get the word and definition of love mixed up with the pure fact of infatuation. There are many differences when it comes to the two feelings. Love is a tender, passionate, affection for another, while infatuation is just a feeling of actually being in love with another person. Infatuation is similar to a stepping stone to actual love, but sometimes it doesn’t make it all the way to the end, being love. There can be many reasons as to why someone may fall in love with and or become infatuated with another person. Some reasons one becomes in love are to include, but not limited to physical attraction, intellectual and emotional compatibility. Infatuation usually starts off with a physical attraction leading to feelings that may be what they want to become love. The biggest differences when it comes to reasons causing these feeling are that infatuation is always caused by some reason whether you acknowledge it or not, with love on the other hand, there does not need to be a reason. It can be a feeling out of pure mystery and sometimes a person might not want to feel that for another person, but that’s the huge difference. People who are infatuated are always looking for reasons, which there usually are. Love normally has reasons but does not need one for it be love. Even though these are just feelings, they both have physical differences between the two. The main one is physical attraction. With love there does not need to be an attraction. Infatuation is mostly caused by attraction for the other. Infatuation can turn into love over time, but cannot remain based on physical appearance. Another difference is separation. Infatuation is weakened by time and separation where real love is strengthened by time and separation. Love will never die when the two are separated, whereas infatuation grows bored. Even love may become bored after so many years but the feeling will always be there no matter what. Love will never betray whereas infatuation very easily might. When it comes to emotional differences there are many more than physical. Most important is the definition itself. Infatuation is defined as the state of being completely carried away by unreasoning passion or love. Love is defined as the constellation or emotions and experiences related to a sense of strong affection or profound oneness. The attribute between the two are very different as well. With infatuation the other
