LOUIS SACHAR

Biography




Louis Sachar was born on March 20,
1954, in East Meadow, New York. He received his B.A. degree in economics from the University of California in 1976.
After college he worked at a sweater warehouse in Connecticut and wrote at night. After he was fired from that job he went to law school. His first book, Sideways
Stories From Wayside School, was published during his first week of school.



Sachar says it takes him about a year and a half to write a book. Once he starts he doesn't talk about it to anyone until he's finished. No one is allowed in his office while he is writing except for his two dogs, Lucky and Tippy. Most of his ideas come from what he remembers doing and feeling and thinking as a child.
