The Lost Generation research paper

The Lost Generation is mainly about three US writers that live in Paris during the 1920’s.The writers are Ernest Hemingway, F.Scott Fitzgerald and John Dos Passos. The lost generation are the guys that went through the war. The lost generation, mostly wrote about characters based on their lives. The 1920’s was a huge era for drinking. They had huge parties just about every night, and there was no party that didn’t have alcohol. There was no prohibition in France, like there was in the United States. France was also a lot cheaper on their beverages . The term “The Lost Generation” came from a lady by the name of Gertrude Stein. Gertrude is a huge role model to these writers. If you got her approval on something that you wrote, then you know that you wrote a great book. She was also a big artist as well .While she was in France her auto mechanic rumored to her, that his young workers were, “une generation perdue”. He was referring to the young worker poor mechanic skills. Gertrude would later take the saying “The Lost Generation” and describe the people of the 1920’s who rejected American post World War 1 values. World War 1 had a huge impact on people. The people that lived through the war had really bad mental issues. They saw things that no one should ever see in their lifetime. The meaning of heroism changed. In World War 1 if you stuck your hand up and was shot in the hand, you will be given the purple heart. The Purple Heart use to be really hard to get. You would have to do something very heroic to get it. Now it’s as easy as just getting sick while you’re at war. During World War 1, the soldiers were told to do this and this, but they didn’t understand what they were fighting for. The lost generation writers are originally from The United States but moved over to Paris, France.
The Great Gatsby is about “Nick” Carraway, who is a Yale graduate and a World War 1 veteran. He takes a job as a bails bond in New York. He lives in Long Island, renting a small house. Nick is next door to Jay Gatsby, who is a mysterious millionaire. Gatsby throws huge parties. Gatsby instills Daisy with a kind of idealized perfection that she neither deserves nor possesses. Gatsby’s dream is ruined by the unworthiness of its object, just as the American dream in the 1920’s is ruined by unworthiness of its object which is money and pleasure. Like 1920’s Americans in general, fruitlessly seeking a bygone era in which their dreams had value, Gatsby longs to re-create a vanished past-his time in Louisville with Daisy-but is incapable of doing so. Daisy hits Myrtle which is Wilsons wife and kills her. Tom tells Wilson that Gatsby was behind the wheel. The reason Tom tell Wilson that is because, Tom has feelings for Daisy as well. The next day Wilson goes to Gatsby’s mansion and shoots Gatsby, while he was in his pool. After Wilson shoots Gatsby, he goes into the woods and turns the gun on himself. Nick arranges Gatsby’s funeral. Nick, Gatsby’s Father and an elderly guy were the only ones to show up. Disgusted with everything that is happening. Nick gives up his job and his house to go back to the Midwest. The setting is in Long Island, New York,
