Lord of the Flies contains ideas about Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, two political theorists who had two diffrent views of human nature. In the book Lord of the Flies, you can also find how the children make their own government and also what type or types of governments are used. Like stated before Hobbes and Locke had two diffrent views about human nature. Thomas Hobbes believed that people are savages and evil by heart. Hobbes also believed that the government is created so that the people will give their rights in return of their life. On the other hand, John Locke belived that from heart, people were nor good or evil, that they would decide if they would be good or evil according to their situations. To John Locke, government is created so that they can protect human rights because people have rights by their nature. The author of Lord of the Flies, William Golding, uses Hobbes' philosophy to write this novel. In the book the only thing Jack thinks about hunting and killing pigs and later separates from Ralph's group because Ralph doesn't think about killing like he does. Also, when Simon was in the mountain The Lord of the Flies told him, "You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close! I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?", meaning that Simon knew that the beastie was really themselves. When Simon left to tell the others, they thought he was the beastie at first and stabbed him but later found out it was just Simon but they continued stabbing him not carrying it was Simon. In the Lord of the Flies there are two origins of government. One of them is created by Ralph and the other by Jack. The first government was created by Ralph when they first crashed on the island. Ralph found a conch that is used to bring everyone together after the crash separated them. When all of the kids are together they talk and later vote and elect Ralph as the chief. What Ralph wants to do with his govenment is keep everything organized and get smoke so that any ship passing by can rescue them. The other government is created by Jack because he dislikes that Ralph is telling them what to do. He creates his own group that is just about having fun and killing pigs. Jack also doesn't worry about getting rescued like Ralph does because he is worried about hunting. The two governments that Ralph and Jack create are two completly different types of governments.
