2. One of the major conflicts I encountered in Lord of the Flies was Life vs. death. Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Maurice, and Simon were in the rubble of an airplane crash on a deserted tropical island with no adults that survived. All of the survivors overcame death by building their own shelters by using trees and other debris. Jack was the one who hunted for wild pigs in order to feed everyone. Since they cannot drink saltwater, they got water out of coconuts.

In the novel, the author describes to characterize Ralph because he was descriptive on the very first sentence. “The boy with fair hair lowered himself the last few feet of rock and began to pick his way to the lagoon.” (7) When I read this, I did not have an idea what fair haired mean until I looked it up. I found out that fair haired means blond-haired.
Ralph is a protagonist because he was a major character in the story and he did not do anything bad in the story.

5. The novel is narrated in third person because in the narration, the author never focused the story on one person’s view. The narrator also never wrote I in the story except for the dialogue. “This is an island. At least I think it’s an island. That’s a reef out in the sea. Perhaps, there aren’t any grownups anywhere.” Ralph said. (8)
