Life on the Farm
Chickens, horses, cows, pigs, and goats. Every morning a rooster crow would wake up my family and let us know that it was time to start the day. At the time Mrs. Jackline was about 5 or 6 years old, Her mother would come into her room and wake her up to start the chores. After she finished feeding the chickens and pigs there would be a plate of eggs and a bowl of oatmeal on the table for breakfast. Once she finished and cleaned the dishes it was time to get ready for school.
Jackline would put on her school dress and grab her bag, which only had one notebook, a pencil, an eraser, and a light pink jump rope in it. On her way to school Jackline would look at all the animals and make faces at them until she caught up with her friends. The school that she went to was small and only had 2 classrooms for grades zero (also known as kindergarten) through eight. Jackline and her friends were afraid of the professor because discipline for girls was harsher than it was for boys at this time. If someone were a girl and you spoke without being directed to you would be paddled bare back in front of the entire class several times. If someone were a boy you would first get a warning then after that if you disobeyed again you would be paddled bareback in front of the class. Other than a few problems here and there in school Jack said her life is pretty good. Her favorite time was when they got out for holiday,
