After graduating undergrad in 2011, I had every intention of finding a job immediately following school. My degree was in sociology, (with a concentration in social work) and although I had heard the job market was difficult, I didn’t think I would have much of a problem finding a job considering I now had a degree. I never realized how hard it actually was to find a job until I began getting turned down for jobs I had wanted. I went on many interviews and was turned down due to lack of experience. When I finally did find a job, (that wasn’t even in the field of social work) it paid much less than I had intended and had I decided to stay at this job, I never would have been able to make it on my own. I was having a difficult time accepting my fate, so I turned to my father who had gone through graduate school and had obtained his Juris Doctorate. At this moment in time, I knew that I would have to go back to school, gain more experience, and get my graduate degree. My father was immediately receptive to this and went to look at different schools with me, researched both of the fields I was interested in getting my master’s in (school counseling and social work), helped me through the long application processes and prepped me for interviews which some of the schools required. After being rejected from two different schools, taking classes as a non-matriculated student, reapplying to the program and be rejected yet again, I was feeling hopeless and I wanted to give up on
