1. A review of the teaching/training role, explaining its responsibilities and limits; how teachers work within professional boundaries and how to work with other professionals who support the learner.
When working within the lifelong learning sector it is essential as a teacher/trainer to understand my role and responsibilities, therefore in order to fully engage with learner I first have to understand the Teaching and learning cycle, and ensure that I am applying my resources and delivery to the needs of my learners and also ensure their individual learning styles are engaged with.

Identifying Needs –Within my current role of organising, delivery of training and development of programmes starts by identifying the learners ‘needs. Pre event wherever possible I arrange a meeting with the school/organisation to discuss the needs of the learners. What are the potential barriers, group dynamics, what are the expectations and required outcomes of the school/organisation for the learners?
Planning learning – Preparing session plans, resources and teaching methods to deliver, when doing an activity and or group work I always consider the individual learner are they activists, reflectors, theorists or pragmatists learners? When doing group work I ensure groups have equal number of activists, reflectors, theorists and pragmatists so that each learner is able to contribute and gain something different from activities. Each of the above learners connects with a stage on the learning cycle. Learners with Activist preferences will try anything once therefore equipped for experiencing. (Stage 1 of the learning cycle) Reflectors need the opportunity to review what is being taught, (Stage 2 of the learning cycle) whereas Theorists think things through in logical steps and absorb the information (Stage 3 of the learning cycle) and finally Pragmatist, practical learners with a need to plan ahead. (Stage 4 of the learning cycle)

Facilitate the learning - I carry out further evaluation of learners’ needs on the first day of the course through informal discussions. When meeting learners for the first time it is important and essential to ensure they are comfortable within the learning environment, an environment where they can flourish and feel their input at the session is valued. It is essential that ground rules are implementing by the learners under the guidance and support of the teacher prior to the commencement of the learning, allowing learners to take ownership of the rules, defines roles and responsibilities of each learner and sets the expected behaviour within the classroom, during this discussion I would also discuss general housekeeping including Health & Safety. Following discussion of the above I would now use an Ice breaker, this is an excellent way to identify group dynamics learn individual names, assess the needs of the learners, and identify any learners who may need additional support.
Assessing learning - Continually assesses the learning throughout the session, by checking understanding and knowledge, I would do this by asking questions ensuring that I am using my resources and delivery effectivity to meet the needs of the learner. Are they gaining the skills and knowledge to enable them to meet their objectives? When working with large numbers of students from many different backgrounds and abilities, it is essential to adapt training materials and delivery to ensure positive outcomes.
