Moczulski/Canadian Press) More than a tenth of Canadians surveyed said they thought Jews, Chinese and Anglophones inside Quebec suffered from persistent discrimination, while francophone outside Quebec ranked the lowest at nine per cent, according to the study, which had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
Why is it happening today?
There are many explanations to why discrimination continues to happen today, despite the frequent contributing phrase of Canada being a “multi-cultural” country. First of all immigrants are multiple here, and many continue to arrive daily. Yet when those immigrants arrive, not all of them came to adapt and enjoy the Canadian culture and lifestyle, but rather for safety and financial security of which they lacked back in their own countries. They came to change their circumstances not their culture. That being said, many immigrants come and isolate themselves into a group in a certain area. They have made their own towns, in order to not feel so homesick, or isolated from society. Each culture has gathered itself together in an area, and is making a living while trying to adapt their lifestyle that they had in their own countries into new and better conditions that they are living in today; the condition of comfort, peace, safety, and chance of prosperity.
Canadian culture does not accept such a state of manner that immigrants are coming into their country with. They expect Muslim women to remove their scarfs, Jews to stop wearing their hats, Sikhs to stop wearing the kaftan. In reality Canadians are being prejudice, and immigrants are being naïve. No one should be forbidden of their religion, and yet no one should be judged for their culture either. Despite that, immigrants need to understand that they
