The laws of this country are in place to protect the citizens of this country and the world when discussing business deals that may turn into international deals. It would be complete chaos if the world we lived in didn’t have laws. This paper will outline the differences between substantive law, procedural law, criminal law, civil law, common law, and statutory law. Statutory laws are laws created by the House of Representatives and the senators which can be approved by the executive branches. Common law are laws that have been established by courts on the basis of previous court causes or precedence that has been set already. Civil law deals with the criminal aspect when someone violates a crime. Substantive law describes what should be the punishment for breaking the laws that are in place. Substantive law is the portion of the law that determines how the case will be heard and what that information will consist of. Additionally substantive law defines degrees of murder in a case. Procedural law comprises the set of rules that govern the proceedings of the court in criminal lawsuits. For example, procedural law is the time allotted for one party to sue another and the rules governing the process of the lawsuit itself. An example of a statutory law is the Obamacare health insurance. This law was created to give all citizens the right to have health insurance. An example of common law is the right for the all people no matter what sexual orientation to be legally married. The courts in California reheard the cases and based their decision on court rulings for the equal rights of all people. Substantive law is someone being sentenced to ten years in prison for robbery. This is the punishment given for breaking the law. This would include if someone had a car accident and the person who caused the accident was being sued. The fifth and fourteenth amendment describes due process along with every U.S. citizen with the right to pursue liberty and happiness. For businesses, this is the right to be prosperous without mistreating others. The different types of laws really affect my organization is because we provide a service to people. When providing a service, it is critical for all of us to know what laws are in place to protect our company. If people in the company are violating these laws, it should be reported immediately. Common law evolves with new decisions made by judges in courts. Statutory laws are normally passed by various government agencies of a country. The fifth and 14th U. S. Constitution amendments were put into action to care of the rights of businesses and organizations.
