just Procedure
1. Obtain sample and record sample number in data table.
2. Mark Erlenmeyer flask with names/initials using wax pencil (write on glass).
3. Mark filter paper with names/initials along outside edge using regular pencil.
4. Measure masses of beaker, marked flask and marked filter paper & record in data table.
5. Put sand/salt mixture into beaker and take mass of beaker/mixture. Record in data table.
6. Add just enough water to dissolve salt (about 10 mL), swirling beaker to facilitate dissolving.
7. Set up filter apparatus, locating the Erlenmeyer flask beneath funnel to catch salt water. Fold filter paper, with names/initials on inside, place it in funnel & wet slightly with wash bottle to keep in place.
8. Pour sand & salt water into filter & wash beaker with 2-3 squirts of water to remove all salt water.
9. After water has drained from sand, wash once more in funnel for 2-3 seconds to wash salt water from sand.
10. Put sand/filter paper onto a watch glass and into oven to dry.
11. Put flask with salt water into oven to evaporate water.
12. Mass sand & filter paper, flask & salt when dry (second day)

Flask-Erlenmeyers are used in chemistry labs for titration. An Erlenmeyer flask, also known as a conical flask, is a widely used type of laboratory flask which features a flat bottom, a conical body, and a cylindrical neck. Filter Paper-It is an absorbent paper, which is used to separate small particles from liquids. Cylindrical Graduate-A graduated cylinder is a piece of laboratory glassware used to accurately measure out volumes of chemicals for use in reactions. They are generally more accurate and precise for…
Abstract: Experiment 55 consists of devising a separation and purification scheme for a three component mixture. The overall objective is to isolate in pure form two of the three compounds. This was done using extraction, solubility, crystallization and vacuum filtration. The experiment was carried out two times, both of which were successful. Background Information: This experiment combined all the knowledge of the previous labs performed throughout the semester. An unknown mixture containing…
EXPERIMENT 9: The Grignard Reaction Written by Albert T. Sneden, VCU Department of Chemistry with revisions by L.M. Moses The carbonyl group, as well as other electrophilic functional groups, undergoes facile reactions with nucleophilic reagents. Among the most useful nucleophilic reagents are those classified as organometallic reagents since the by-product of the reaction is usually an insoluble metallic salt. One of the most common organometallic reagents is a Grignard reagent which, when…
Cu(OH)2 to CuO * CuO is less gelatinous precipitate than Cu(OH)2 is, thus easier to isolate * The blue Cu(OH)2 becomes black CuO * If heating doesn't do the trick we add MORE NaOH * Vacuum Filtration * Filter with a suction filter flask and a Buchner funnel * Wash the CuO with water: 1) to get it out of the beaker 2) CuO is wet with a solution, contains NaNO3 and NaOH (by washing it we replace this solution with water) Part 3: Synthesis of Copper (II)…
Workplace Legislation In this report I will be explaining about Workplace Legislation information, covering topics such as Equal Opportunities, Data Protection, Health & Safety and Environmental Issues. I will include my findings from research, a conclusion and Finally covering my information Sources. Equal Opportunities What is meant by diversity and why it should be valued? During my findings I discovered that Diversity can be defined as differences in heritage, race, beliefs,…
Experiments 4A-C: Synthesis and Component Analysis of an Iron (III) Oxalate Complex My Name TA, Section B## Work Performed on 10/23, 10/30, & 11/4, 200# Report due Tuesday, November ##, 200# 1. Abstract This experiment initially involved the synthesis of an iron (III) oxalate complex with the general formula Kw[Fex(C2O4)y]·zH2O. The variables x, y, and z were determined through the duration of the entire experiment. From 1.2000g of Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 were synthesized 1.1###g of K3[FeIII(C2O4)3]·3H2O…
Executive Summary In this report our main aim was to find out about the relationships of the Royal Fabrics with its Customers, Suppliers and the External Partners. How Royal Fabrics is maintaining the relationship or the strategies it’s using to maintain or improve the relationships with them. So in my research find out that Royal Fabrics is maintaining its relationships very well with its suppliers as all the suppliers are working with this company from more than 8 years and its customers like Arvind…
