The war that I think has some of the same similarities as the Biblical Just War is Operation Iraqi Freedom. It all stated back in October of 2001 and as many would say it is still going on to this present day. The war started when the Iraqi terrorists engaged in an unannounced attack on the US soil killing innocent people. The Americans declared war on the Iraqi nation out of retaliation. The U.S. has used and is still using all of its power to stabilize the country for the better. The current president at that time started the war on Iraq to capture the person or persons that was in charge for the on the 9/11 attack and to stop terrorist operations from openly doing whatever they wanted to in this country. The mission of the United States at that time was not to destroy the entire terrorist staff, its intent was to reassemble and establish a strong democracy for the Afghans. To this day we are still actively trying to teach the people of Afghanistan how to defend for themselves and help lead them to building a more established government. We did not make this war for selfish gain, but for the welfare of not only the people living in America, but for the country of Afghanistan and the entire world. The Operation Enduring Freedom Is classified as a Just War and it follows the Biblical aspects of war. Terrorism won’t be permitted and it shall be stopped. A JUST WAR? Was the United States justified in going to war against Mexico in 1846? I did a whole lot of research and read so much information about the events that led up to the United States decision to declare war on Mexico and I have come to the conclusion that my answer to that question would be no, absolutely not. I do not believe that the United States had the right to declare war against Mexico. I strongly disagree with people using such violence just to get something they lust…
Ethics – Just War a.) Explain how the followers of the religion you have studied justify going to war The issue of war, and how we relate to it, has been prominent in human civilisation all throughout history. The last century has seen the world through two worlds wars, plus plenty of smaller-scale ones too, that lead Robin Gill to say that “War has presented the 20th Century with perhaps its most crucial moral problem.” Even recently, there have civil wars, religious wars, those for economic resources…
the theory that peaceful rather than violent or confrontational relations should govern human intercourse and that arbitration should be used to resolve disputes. Peace is easiest to define dialectically as ‘opposition to war or violence’. It can be described simply as anti-war or as non-violence. Pacifism literally could be delineated as a love of peace, or devotion to peace. Pacifism is a philosophy that no value or gain could justify that the use of violence takes priority over the commitment…
Just War Theory One of the obvious realities of human existence is war. From the earliest recorded events of human history, through to modern times, human communities have engaged in armed conflict as a method of dispute resolution. Although war has been a constant part of the human experience, there has also been a tendency within virtually all human civilizations to limit the extent of war and the methods by which warfare may be conducted. The Just War Theory is the comparatively more fruitful…
Just War – Was the Vietnam War justifiable? The Vietnam War occurred between the years of 1959-75, involving the Viet Cong against the Republic of Vietnam and the USA. It is arguable that the war was a civil war that the United States of America simply impeded on. Whether or not the involvement of the USA was justifiable comes is questionable. Casualties: United States: 58,119 killed, 153,303 wounded, 1,948 missing in action South Vietnam 230,000 killed and 1,169,763 wounded (estimated) North Vietnam…
Religion (Just War) Christianity preaches peace and loving your neighbor but for the history of christianity, there has been violence and war in its name. For Many years people have been killing other human beings in the name of christ or justifying their killings by saying that the war is in the name of god. The belief that violence and war can be justified is called the “Just War Theory.” Just war is a war that is justified because it is necessary for peace to happen. Just war theory has…
Vietnam, Just or Unjust? Some ask the question, was the Vietnam War just? Some may say yes it was just, and others say that it is unjust. However,Certain people view justice as slippery concept. There are always ways to get aroud justice, and that is why people believe that justice is a slippety concept. Even Plato one of the brightest of his time could not figure out whether war was just or unjust. A Certain individual, by the name of Aquinas, also attempted to elaborate his view on the war through…
Iraq and Just War Theory Harris Sheikh Hum 102 Prof. Burke February 13, 2014 A corrupt nation can only win so many times before the lies begins to unravel and questions begins to rise. There haves been many incident throughout the history where the actions takenook by the government could be ruled unjust, yet people always tend to be blinded by the reality that stands in front of them. A war may have many reasons behind it, but for it to be considered just, but it…
Just war What is a just war in the eyes of the Catholic Church? In this paper I will tell you the main criteria for a war to be considered just. The Just War Doctrine was first introduced by St. Augustine of Hippo around 400 AD. St. Augustine got the just war theory through to the people by some of the books he had written. St. Augustine wrote dozens of books in his lifetime but he has two that really influenced the just war theory. The two books are City of God, and Confessions. Here is a piece…
Sadly, there are few restraints on the endings of wars. There has never been an international treaty to regulate war's final phase, and there are sharp disagreements regarding the nature of a just peace treaty. There are, by contrast, restraints aplenty on starting wars, and on conduct during war. These restraints include: political pressure from allies and enemies; the logistics of raising and deploying force; the United Nations, its Charter and Security Council; and international laws like the…
