Judaism (243-260) Passage Summary/ Critical Reflection # 6 Judaism appears to me just like Christianity because all of the stories and context of what occurs are very similar. Just like Christianity has a bible with scriptures that should reflect everything they do; Jews have Torah (1st 5 books) that has Ketuvim or writings that they should abide to. The Jewish people were selected by God and their religion is based off of what needs to be done in order to please God so that they can make it to the indescribable realms that was promised. Jews follow a law called halakha and go by a narrative aggadah which revolves around fulfilling what is needed of them from God. Jews are “to walk humbly with thy God” (Micah 6:8) (Prothero 245) which to me means they did each and every assignment that God appointed to them.
Meaning they are now honorable enough to be in the presence of their high being. It is said that Christianity and Islam came from Judaism; although I don’t disagree or agree but I do feel like all three religions have a lot in common. Judaism also refers back on two sacred texts called the Tanakh and the Talmud. The Tanakh reflects on “…prophecies, love poems, hymns, theological history, wisdom literature, law, and apocalyptic visions.” This religion is very similar to Christianity and the stories and different perspectives seem to have the same concept even though there may have been a few glitches here and there.
