In the video with Caroline Casey she talks about the struggles she has overcome as a legally blind person. Although my struggle is different from hers, both of our struggles have helped to shape us into the people we are today. My favorite sport is soccer. I use to play all the time. It was my life. I played on multiple teams and was very competitive. I played most of high school and made the varsity team since my freshman year. During my sophomore year of high school I hurt my ankle, and the doctor said that I might not be able to play soccer again. I was devastated, but similar to Caroline Casey I would not give up because of what the doctors told me. After I got my ankle out of the cast I would do exercises and stretches for it everyday. When soccer came for my junior year and my ankle was still was not healed, I had to miss tryouts. I went out anyways, just to see if I could make it regardless. My coach, similar to Casey’s doctor, would ask me why I wanted to keep trying. I said that all I wanted to do is play soccer and I was not going to let my ankle be the reason why I had to quiet. I ended up being able to travel with the team to games and sit on the bench, but I was unable to play all of that season. After over a year and a half of not being able to play soccer, the doctor cleared me, but said that I was at a high risk of worsening the injury. I played all of my senior year, and lead the team in scoring. This experience has shaped me into the person I am today. I learned that I am the only person that can hold me back, and no matter what other people tell me I can overcome any obstacle in my way. I am good at learning new things on my own. New material is always interesting and I am always trying to get better at what I learn. This has made me proud of the things that I have learned because I have taught it to myself. Like Casey, if I want to do something, I put my mind to it and do everything I can to learn and get better at it. I am most proud of being able to play the piano because it took a lot of time for me to learn the basics and now I can read the
