Built Upon the Rock We have all heard the Biblical story of the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. As the rains came, the foundation of his house washed away, therefore destroying all of his earthly possessions. The wise man, however, had built his house upon the rock. As the rains came upon his house, his foundation stood firm. Because of his solid foundation, he stood firm in the storms of life. Growing up in a small town, I have been fortunate enough to attend a Christian school, not a private school, but a Christian-based school with a good solid foundation. I had the honor of attending Savannah Christian Academy through the eighth grade, with only one exception. At some point during my fifth grade year, I possessed the urge to go to our public school. I had deliberated over this decision for several months. The main reason for my desire to transfer was that I wanted to be with many of my friends who attended the middle school. Being young, I thought that I knew what was best for me, and therefore I told my parents that I wanted to transfer. Without thinking twice, I enrolled into Hardin County Middle School the following year. The new environment shocked me because of my sheltered Christian school background. During that particular school year, the new peers and teachers that I met had an everlasting impact on my outlook of the public school. The school curriculum and the caliber of teachers were extremely foreign to what I had grown accustomed. After one year, my parents re-enrolled me in Savannah Christian Academy, and I was eager to return. I knew then, at the age of fourteen, that the foundation I was building would have an everlasting effect on my future. Just
