Character Analysis of Dr. John Watson Who would Fred be without Barney? Batman without Robin? Stewie without Brian? They would be a character without personality because each of them, Fred, Batman and Stewie, needs their sidekick to balance them out. In the series Sherlock created by Mark Gantiss and Steven Moffat, the main characters, Sherlock Holmes, cocky and impulsive, and Dr. John
Watson, cautious and shy, help each other to solve crimes . Through the show, we see how the relationship between the two of them works together as gears in a watch. Dr. John
Watson is a doctor who served in the Afghanistan war. He returns to London “a bit of a lost soul” and meets Sherlock Holmes when they shared an apartment. They start to solve cases together. Sherlock is cold, irresponsible and selfish, but Watson is caring, responsible, and loyal; therefore they make a good team because they have opposite personalities. Holmes is the yin to Watson’s yang, “opposite contrary forces interconnected and interdependent.” Watson’s caring ways help make them a good team because he also saves other people from getting offended or hurt by Sherlock cold ways.. Dr. John Watson is caring compared to
Sherlock’s cold calculating ways. He chose to be an army doctor to serve England in the war.
